THE HERETIC QUEEN

Goodreads’ review:

AUTHOR: MICHELLE MORAN
PUBLISHED BY: QUERCUS PUBLICATIONS
GENRE:  FICTION, EGYPTIAN HISTORY, ETC.

In ancient Egypt, a forgotten princess must overcome her family’s past and remake history.

The winds of change are blowing through Thebes. A devastating palace fire has killed the Eighteenth Dynasty’s royal family–with the exception of Nefertari, the niece of the reviled former queen, Nefertiti. The girl’s deceased family has been branded as heretical, and no one in Egypt will speak their names. Nefertari is pushed aside, an unimportant princess left to run wild in the palace. But this changes when she is taken under the wing of the Pharaoh’s aunt, then brought to the Temple of Hathor, where she is educated in a manner befitting a future queen.

Soon Nefertari catches the eye of the Crown Prince, and despite her family’s history, they fall in love and wish to marry. Yet all of Egypt opposes this union between the rising star of a new dynasty and the fading star of an old, heretical one. While political adversity sets the country on edge, Nefertari becomes the wife of Ramesses the Great. Destined to be the most powerful Pharaoh in Egypt, he is also the man who must confront the most famous exodus in history.

              MY REVIEW
As a child, I was always interested in mythical creatures; demons, monsters, and of course MUMMIES. May be that was one of the reasons why i bought this book when I was 12. I expected mummies coming out of their graves, and haunting people. But it wasn’t like that. But to be honest i am not disappointed. I think this book is a very good one, may be a fiction but it does give us an idea about ancient Egypt, their culture, and makes me wonder, what happened to it, do they still practice that culture? Do they still mummify their dead ones in a hope that they might rise back from grave? But this book doesn’t deal with that. Rather, it depicts the life of a queen who was called heretic (misbeliever of the current custom rules). It is strange to not that roman history and Egyptian histories are almost similar.

Anyways coming back to the book, it is a great combination of stuff, drama, romance, history, imagination, politics, I think author has depicted a good mixture of all these emotions. I wouldn’t say this book was soothing or would change your upset mood, no. This book probably wouldn’t but this book is very interesting. Although I don’t think it should’ve had a little bit of erotica in it, or may be the book needed it.  No comments on that.(i have very little knowledge about that).

Over all it is a very good book, not recommended for age group below 16 though.
I would rate it: 3/5 points.
and 3 flowers!
